Carey Cavanaugh is an independent position and team volleyball coach and founder of C2 Champion Setting, who brings her passion and expertise to the court. With over 25 years of college playing, coaching and consulting experience, her approach to teaching fundamentals, strategy and a commitment to individualized player development is sure to have a positive impact on your players and team.
In 2018, she released her first book, How to Develop a Champion Setter which focuses not only on the type of athlete to look for, but the fundamentals of setting, drills to improve the setter skillset, the importance of leadership skills and the mental focus that a setter must posses in order to successfully run offensive strategies.
Prior to starting C2 Champion Setting, Carey served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Ashland University from 2010-2015. She came to Ashland from Oberlin College where she was the head coach from 2005-2010, guiding Oberlin to their first 15-win season, breaking 11 school records and leading the team to their highest finish in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).
Before being named the Head Coach at Oberlin she served for three years as the assistant coach at Kent State University.
A former college setter for one year at The Ohio State University and three years at East Tennessee State University, Carey was a 3-time All Conference player and named the 2001 Southern Conference Player of the Year. In 2001, she was also named the East Tennessee State Athlete of the Year.
A native of Stow, Ohio, she attended Stow-Munroe Falls High School where she was a two-time All State Selection, the All Ohio Player of the Year and an inductee into the Stow-Munroe Falls High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Today, Carey is married and a mom of three boys, residing in Columbus, Ohio.
